I've been in the City for almost 16 years, and I remember my first year, back in 2001 with no cell phone, it was much tougher to make a call. Go to the pay phone, find some coins to feed the tel... add more every 2 minutes, at least 25 cents, that was something! First of all you needed some change, plus the noise around you of the cops, sirens or something else! So hard to hear... Then 2 out of 4 phones never even worked! Many kids can't understand that – those days are gone for sure.
I just wanted to immortalize those pay phones. It's a kind of "homage" because they're going to disappear slowly but surely in the future. That's how I came up with the name TT, a mix of Telephone and Taxis. Very New York City.
